Biography

A blind pianist with a neural disorder, Lucy was discovered by British television before releasing her first album. Born Lucy Illingworth in West Yorkshire in 2009, she learned to play the piano from the age of five, and showed a talent for reproducing tunes heard only once. Blind from birth, she is affected by a chromosome duplication leading to autistic disorders and a neuro-divergent disease. Noticed by a video filmed at Leeds railway station, where she performs Chopin's Nocturne in B flat minor, at the age of thirteen she wins the vote of the public and jurors Lang Lang and Mika on the BBC show The Piano, for her performance of Debussy'sArabesque No. 1 at London's Royal Albert Hall. Nominated for a BAFTA Award, Lucy unveils a debut album in December 2024, featuring pieces by Chopin, Debussy, Schumann and Bach, the single "I'm Walking with You" with the Masquerad Quintet and "Silent Night" with the same musicians and Aled Jones. On its release, Lucy made it into the British classical music charts, reaching number 26.
