Classical crossover pianist and composer GabrÃel Ãlafs was born In ReykjavÃk, Iceland on December 3, 1998. Influenced by classical music, film, fantasy, and Icelandic poetry, he is best-known for co-founding the ReykjavÃk Orkestra. He began playing the piano at the age of five and learned to play both classical and jazz music. At the age of 14, he composed his first song, âAbsent Minded,â which led to signing a record deal with One Little Indian Records (now known as One Little Independent Records). His debut album, Absent Minded, was released in 2019 and became an international hit. The albumâs âStaircase Sonata,â has been streamed more than 10 million times on social media platforms. His second album, Piano Works (2020), was another success and featured âFilma Solo.â After the release of a remixed version of his debut album â entitled Absent Minded Reworks â in 2020, GabrÃel Ãlafs signed with Decca Records in the US and released the album Solon Islandus in 2022. That same year, he co-founded the ReykjavÃk Orkestra, who have performed music for various television and film productions. Inspired by Viking melodies, his next album, Lullabies for Piano and Cello, was released in 2023.
