Biography

Lino Toffolo Rossit, known professionally as Lino Toffolo, was born on December 30, 1934, in Murano, Italy. He began his career as a singer and quickly gained recognition at the Derby Club in Milan, where he performed as an ivrogne singing in Venetian dialect. His breakthrough came with the release of "Johnny Bassotto" in 1972, which peaked at number 2 on the Italian Hit Parade. Toffolo's musical career included three albums and several singles, with his most notable work being Acqua alta, released in 2010. In addition to his music career, he was also an accomplished actor, appearing in numerous films between 1968 and 1978, including works directed by Dino Risi and Mario Monicelli. Toffolo's versatility extended to television and theater, where he authored two plays, Gelati caldi and Fisimat, and wrote two books, A Ramengo and A Gratis. He passed away on May 17, 2016, in Murano.
