The Six Parts Seven, an American post-rock band from Kent, Ohio, was founded in 1995 by brothers Allen and Jay Karpinski. The group initially featured Allen on guitar and Jay on drums, with guitarist Tim Gerak joining the lineup in 1997. Their debut studio album, ...In Lines and Patterns, was released in 1998. The band's music is predominantly instrumental, featuring multiple undistorted electric guitars, bass, drums, and various additional instruments such as lap steel guitar, viola, piano, vibraphone, or trumpet. Notable albums include Silence Magnifies Sound (2000), Things Shaped In Passing (2002), Everywhere and Right Here (2004), and Casually Smashed to Pieces (2006). The band's music has been used by NPRâs All Things Considered news program as transition music. In 2024, they published a collaborative album with Goodmorning Valentine, titled Kissing Distance, which was originally recorded in 2006.
