The Parlotones, formed in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1998 by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Kahn Morbee, guitarist Paul Hodgson, bassist Glen Hodgson, and drummer Neil Pauw, emerged from a highâschool collaboration that evolved into a Britpopâinfluenced indie rock sound. Their breakthrough came with the single "Beautiful" (2004) and the EP Borderline Patrol (2004), which secured airplay on 5FM and regional radio. The bandâs debut studio album, Episoda (2003), was followed by Radiocontrolledrobot (2005), winning Best Rock Album at the 2006 South African Music Awards, and A World Next Door to Yours (2007), the bestâselling South African rock album of the decade. In 2009, Stardust Galaxies (2009) yielded the singles "Life Design" and "Push Me to the Floor", while the 2010 single "Come Back as Heroes" expanded their international presence. The Parlotones signed with Universal Music in 2007, toured Europe and the United States-including opening for Blue October and Coldplay-and released Stand Like Giants (2013). Subsequent albums Trinkets, Relics & Heirlooms (2016) and China (2018) maintained chart success, and the Christmas album Strike the Harp (2020) received positive reviews; the group remains active, having won nine South African Music Awards and performed at major events such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup KickâOff Celebration.
