Gay Dad, an English rock band formed in London in 1994, consisted of Cliff Jones (guitarist/vocalist), Nick "Baz" Crowe (drummer), James Riseboro (keyboardist), Nigel Hoyle (bassist) and Charley Stone. The group's origins trace back to the late 1980s when members played in various incarnations, including The Timothy and the Astral Projection Society. Their first demo was produced by Jim Irvin and funded by Andrew Loog Oldham and Tony Calder, leading to their live debut at the Orange Club in West Kensington in 1995. Following a lineup change, Gay Dad signed with London Records in December 1997 after recording three new tracks, including "To Earth With Love". The band's debut single "To Earth With Love" was released in January 1999 and reached number 10 on the UK Singles Chart. Their debut album Leisure Noise, co-produced by Chris Hughes and Mark Frith, followed in June 1999, peaking at number 14. The band toured extensively, including performances at Glastonbury Festival and supporting Stereophonics. Despite initial success, Gay Dad faced a media backlash due to critical reviews and internal changes. In 2001, they released their second album Transmission under the independent label B-Unique, with the single "Now Always and Forever" falling just short of the Top 40. The band disbanded in 2002.
