Subcircus, a Britpop group originating from London, United Kingdom, was formed in late 1994 by Peter Bradley. The band, consisting of guitarist Nikolaj Bloch, drummer Tommas Arnby, and bassist George Brown, debuted with the single "You Love You" on 14 April 1997, which entered the UK Singles Chart at number 61. Shortly thereafter the single "86'd" was released on 30 June 1997, peaking at number 56 and later reâissued with a revised track sequence. In 1996, Subcircus released their debut album Carousel through the independent Echo label, recorded at AIR Studios in London and Real World Studios in Bath, and received favorable reviews from the UK press. The group maintained an active touring schedule, performing over 150 shows across the UK, opening for acts such as Echo & the Bunnymen, Suede, and Ocean Colour Scene, and headlining nightclub tours. After a brief hiatus, Subcircus returned in 1999 with the single "Do You Feel Loved" and the track "For Those Who Cannot Weep", supporting Feeder on tour. In 2000, the band released the single "Sixty Second Love Affair" on 14 March, followed by their second album Are You Receiving? in February 2000.
