Medeski Martin & Wood are an American contemporary jazz trio formed in New York City in 1991 by keyboard player John Medeski, bassist Chris Wood and drummer Billy Martin. They performed in local venues and went on to garner national attention. Collaborators include guitarist John Scofield. They have released many albums since their 1992 debut, Notes from the Underground, with more than 20 appearing on Billboard's Jazz Albums chart. Combustication (1998) and Juice (2014) went to Number 1. Top ten hits include Shack-Man, which reached number 7 in 1996. The Dropper (2000) peaked at number 2, the live Tonic (2000) number 3, Uninvisible (2002) number 4, End of the World Party (Just in Case) (2004) number 5, Out Louder (2006) with John Scofield number 5, Let's Go Everywhere (2008) number 7, Radiolarians I (2008) number 8, Radiolarians II (2009) number 6 and Live: In Case the World Changes Its Mind with John Scofield (2011) and Woodstock Sessions 2 (2014) both number 8. Their 2018 release Omnisphere, with the chamber orchestra Alarm Will Sound, reached number 10. Compilations include Last Chance to Dance Trance (1992) and Note Bleu: Best of the Blue Note Years 1998-2005 (2006). In 2011, the trio released their last album to date, 20.
