Biography

The Mentors, an American heavy metal band, were formed in Seattle, Washington in May 1976 by Eldon Hoke ("El Duce"), Eric Carlson ("Sickie Wifebeater"), and Steve Broy ("Dr. Heathen Scum"). They released their first EP, Mentors, in 1982 through Mystic Records. In 1985, they signed to Death Records and released their debut studio LP, You Axed For It!. The band gained significant attention during the 1985 Congressional hearings orchestrated by Tipper Gore's Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), which highlighted their controversial song "Golden Shower". Despite lineup changes and El Duce's death in 1997, the Mentors continued to release albums such as Sex, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll (1989) and Over The Top (2005). Carlson died from cancer on December 29, 2024 at the age of 66.
