The Hillbilly Moon Explosion's reference to Quentin Tarantino is not gratuitous. Just as the Californian director exalts genre cinema, the Swiss band magnifies a rock of origins fantasized and inflated by a contemporary vision. The titles of the Zurich quartet's albums are an exact reflection of their music: Introducing (2002), Bourgeois Baby (2005), By Popular Demand: The Basement Tapes (2005) and All Grown Up (2009) all offer rockabilly that's both pure and kitschy. Raw Deal, released in 2010, features no less than two tracks composed by Serge Gainsbourg for France Gall, a very open vision of rock'n'roll standards. Similarly, they transform O.M.D.'s "Enola Gay" on the following album, Buy, Beg Or Steal. Ever faithful to their offbeat retro formula, the Swiss musicians followed up their critically acclaimed Damn Right Honey! with a compilation of their best tracks, remastered for the occasion, in My Love for Evermore. At the same time, the band accompanies French actress and singer Arielle Dombasle on her new album, French Kiss.
