Biography

The Diodes, a Canadian punk rock band, formed in 1976 at OCAD University in Toronto. Their early gigs included supporting Talking Heads and opening Canada's first punk nightclub, the Crash 'n Burn. The Diodes released their debut single "Raw / War" in the summer of 1977, featuring Mickey Skin of The Curse. They signed to Columbia Records in August 1977 and released their self-titled debut album, The Diodes, that same year, produced by Bob Gallo. The band's second album, Released, was issued in 1979 on Epic Records. In 1980, they put out Action Re-Action on Orient Records, followed by a cross-Canada tour with U2 and Ultravox. The Diodes disbanded in 1982 after releasing the compilation album Survivors. In 1998, Sony Music released Tired of Waking Up Tired - The Best of The Diodes on CD.
