Biography

Yahyel, a five-piece indie pop band from Tokyo, Japan, was formed in 2015 by Shun Ikegai, Miru Shinoda, and Wataru Sugimoto. The band's name was derived from a word meaning "alien," reflecting the perception of Japanese artists outside their home country. In May 2015, they released their debut EP Y, which garnered critical acclaim. Following this, yahyel toured in London and held a mini-concert at Rough Trade in January 2016. Their second EP, Fool / Midnight Run, was released in February 2016. On July 8, 2016, they released their first single "Once", which was re-released with an additional track "The Flare" on September 28, 2016. The CD sold out quickly and was mastered by Matt Colton. In November 2016, yahyel released their debut album Flesh and Blood, which peaked at number 63 on the Billboard Japan Album Chart. Their third album, Loves&Cults, was released in March 2023.
