The Allisons, an English pop duo consisting of Bob Day and John Alford, were born Bernard Colin Day on February 2, 1941, and Brian Henry John Alford on December 31, 1939, respectively. They were marketed as brothers under the surname Allison. Their breakthrough came in 1961 when they represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest with "Are You Sure?". The song reached Number 1 on the UK NME pop chart and spent six weeks at number 2 on the Official Charts Company chart, selling over one million records and earning a gold disc. In Germany, the single peaked at number 11. Despite minor follow-up hits, the duo disbanded in 1963. Alford initially pursued songwriting but later reunited with Day for short tours to keep the 'Allisons' name alive. In the 1970s and 1980s, Alford performed with other "brothers" â Mike "Allison" and Tony "Allison". By the 1990s, Day and Alford regularly reunited for performances on the oldies circuit. Their final public performance was at the Tales from the Woods British R'n'Roll Heritage Show #8 at The Borderline Club in London in 2012. Bob Day died after a long illness on November 25, 2013, at the age of 72. John Alford passed away on November 13, 2023, at the age of 83.
