Merrilee & The Turnabouts was an American R&B group formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1964. Their breakthrough came in 1965 when they toured with Paul Revere & The Raiders, leading to a record deal. Their debut single "Party Song" / "Itâs Alright" was released that same year, marking the beginning of their recording career. In 1967, the band released two more singles: "Lovers Never Say Goodbye" / "Tell Me the Truth" and "Howâs the Weather on Your Street" / "See Me Iâm Smiling". The following year, Merrilee Rush and The Turnabouts achieved significant success with their hit single "Angel of the Morning", which peaked at number 7 on the US charts and reached Number 1 in New Zealand. Originally recorded by Evie Sands in 1967, "Angel of the Morning" has since been covered by numerous artists including P.P. Arnold, Nina Simone, Juice Newton, Olivia Newton-John, Bonnie Tyler, Dusty Springfield, Rita Wilson, Billie Davis, The New Seekers and The Pretenders. Merrilee Rush was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Female Vocalist of the Year for this song. The band released their debut album Angel Of The Morning in 1968 before disbanding later that year.
