The Alan Bown Set, a British band formed in 1965 by trumpet player Alan James Bown Set with former members of The John Barry Seven and other musicians. Their first single "Can't Let Her Go" / "I'm the One" (1966) was released on Pye Records but did not chart. The band's lineup evolved, including notable members like Mel Collins, John Helliwell, Robert Palmer, Jess Roden, and Dougie Thomson. They achieved limited chart success with singles such as "Headline News" (UK number 52) and "We Can Help You" (UK number 55). Their music transitioned through various genres, including soul, rhythm and blues, psychedelia, and progressive rock. The band released several albums, notably Outward Bown in 1968 and The Alan Bown in 1970. They disbanded in July 1972 after a major tour.
