Lucia Pamela (born 1 May 1904 in St. Louis) was an American musician, singer, and bandleader. She studied at the Beethoven Conservatory of Music and Voice in Germany and performed in Flo Ziegfeldâs Broadway Follies. In 1926, she was voted Miss St. Louis. Pamela established a reputation for memorizing 10,000 songs, leading to a feature in Ripleyâs Believe It or Not. She led the all-female orchestra the Musical Pirates and hosted radio programs including The Encouragement Hour and Gal About Town. Her only album, Into Outer Space with Lucia Pamela (1969), featured songs about an imaginary lunar trip, such as "Moontown" and "Flip Flop Fly". The recording gained recognition following a 1992 reissue. In 1994, the group Stereolab recorded the tribute "International Colouring Contest" in her honour. Pamela died in 25 July 2002. Later that year, Tony Kushner wrote the play Flip Flop Fly based on her life.
