Helen Watson is an English singer‑songwriter whose work spans jazz, pop, and rock. Watson began performing on the Manchester folk club circuit in the late 1960s while teaching, later joining the blues band Loose Lips and the quartet Well Knit Frames. A demo attracted Keith Hopwood of Pluto Music, leading to an EMI contract and the release of her debut album Blue Slipper in 1987, produced by Glyn Johns and featuring musicians such as Bill Payne and Steve Lukather. In 1989 she released The Weather Inside, again with Johns, and toured with Joe Cocker and Black. Watson signed with RCA for the 1992 album Companion Gal, recorded at Rockfield Studios and featuring Andy Fairweather‑Low. After leaving major labels, she worked with Christine Collister and Barb Jungr, and formed the all‑female group Daphne's Flight, releasing a self‑titled album Daphne's Flight in 1995. Subsequent releases—Notes on Desire (1995), Somersault (1997), Doffing (1999), Lifesize (2002), and Headrest (2008)—were largely acoustic folk projects that maintained a steady UK touring presence.
