Biography
Bedroom and indie pop artist Gracie Madigan Abrams was born on 7 September 1999 in Los Angeles, California, US. The daughter of the Emmy-winning screenwriter and film and television director J.J. Abrams (Star Wars, Lost, Armageddon) and Katie McGrath, a film and television producer and actor, she developed an interest in music at an early age and cites Joni Mitchell, Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgers among her influences. In October 2019, aged just 20, she launched her musical career with her debut single "Mean It," issued via Interscope Records. She chronicled her heartache the following July on her debut EP Minor, which she co-wrote herself with production from Blake Slatkin. The EP was propelled by the singles "I Miss You, I'm Sorry" and "21." She paired up with hit US producer Benny Blanco for "Unlearn" in 2021, which was contained on his debut album Friends Keep Secrets 2, and dropped her second EP in 2021. Also released via Interscope, This Is What It Feels Like skewed towards the same candid emotional songwriting of Minor and was produced again by Blake Slatkin with Aaron Dessner. The EP yielded the singles "Rockland,â âAlrightâ and âFeels Like,â the latter going to number 37. She released the singles "Block Me Out" and "Difficult" in October 2022, followed by her debut album Good Riddance in February 2023, which was backed by the lead single "Where do we go now?" Largely produced by Aaron Dessner, her second studio album, The Secret of Us, saw the light in 2024. The LP gave Gracie Abrams her first taste of the US Billboard Top 10, where it landed at number 2. An expanded edition, The Secret of Us (Deluxe), followed in October 2024, adding four new songs and three live recordings. Its breakout single, âThatâs So True,â became Gracie Abramsâ biggest hit, reaching number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spending seven non-consecutive weeks at Number 1 in the UK. She subsequently returned as an opening act for the final dates of Taylor Swiftâs Eras Tour and expanded her own Secret of Us Tour into arenas during 2025. Her Taylor Swift duet âus.â received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, while Gracie Abrams won Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards. She also joined Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco on âCall Me When You Break Upâ and made her Glastonbury debut. In May 2026, Gracie Abrams announced her third album, Daughter from Hell, largely created with Aaron Dessner. Introduced by âHit the Wallâ and âLook at My Life,â the 16-track album dropped on July 17, 2026.
