Biography

Mixing modern pop melodies with the anthemic dynamics of stadium-friendly folk music, Noah Kahan evolved from a viral sensation into a platinum-selling commercial artist with the release of 2017's "Hurt Somebody." A native of Strafford, Vermont, he was born on January 1, 1997, and began writing songs at 8 years old. Kahan continued creating music during his teenage years and signed with Republic Records in 2016. Working with producer Joel Little, he introduced his contemporary, cathartic sound with "Young Blood," a debut single that was released in January 2017. The song earned over nine million streams and later appeared on Noah Kahan's debut album, Busyhead, in 2019. Busyhead also included "Hurt Somebody," a wildly popular single that combined his raspy vocals with contributions from his Grammy-winning duet partner, Julia Michaels. A Top 40 hit in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and America, "Hurt Somebody" served as a springboard for Noah Kahan's career, turning his next three singles — "False Confidence," "Mess," and "Cynic," all of which were released on Busyhead — into Top 40 hits on Billboard's Triple A chart. One year later, Noah Kahan left his adopted hometown of New York to avoid Covid-19 and briefly resettled in Vermont, where he recorded the Cape Elizabeth EP during a single week. "Pride," the EP's lead single, was released that same spring, featuring contributions from mxmtoon.
