A child prodigy, Taylor Swift (born December 13, 1989, in West Reading, Pennsylvania) first visited Nashville at age eleven, handing out demo tapes to labels. Her family later moved there, and she became the youngest staff songwriter ever signed by Sony/ATV Tree Publishing. At 16, she scored her first hit with âTim McGrawâ (2006), followed by her self-titled debut album with four more hits. Her second album Fearless (2008) sold over 4 million copies, making her the yearâs best-selling artist in the US. Speak Now (2010) debuted at number 3 on the Hot 100 with its lead single âMineâ and earned two Grammys for âMean,â supported by a world tour.
In 2012, Taylor Swift released âWe Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,â the lead single from Red, which broke digital sales records. The album spawned several hits and topped the Billboard 200. She returned with 1989 in 2014, featuring âShake It Off,â âBlank Space,â and âBad Blood,â solidifying her move into pop. Reputation (2017) followed, led by âLook What You Made Me Doâ and selling over 1 million copies in its first four days. Lover (2019) arrived with the single âMe!â
In 2020, she surprised fans with Folklore and its companion Evermore, both critical and commercial successes. Its lead single âWillowâ climbed Billboardâs Adult Top 40. Amid a dispute with Big Machine over her masters, Taylor Swift began re-recording her catalog, starting with Fearless (Taylorâs Version) and Red (Taylorâs Version) in 2021, both debuting at Number 1. Midnights (2022) became another chart-topping success, followed by Speak Now (Taylorâs Version) in 2023, featuring Fall Out Boy and Hayley Williams, and 1989 (Taylorâs Version) later that year.
At the 66th Grammy Awards, after winning Best Pop Vocal Album, Taylor Swift announced The Tortured Poets Department, released in 2024 as a double album with guest appearances by Post Malone and Florence and the Machine. The announcement of the album coincided with the culmination of the Eras Tour in December 2024, after which she pivoted into a new creative phase. Taylor Swift resurfaced in October 2025 with her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, featuring a collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter and reunions with longtime producers Max Martin and Shellback.
