Biography
Brandi Marie Carlile was born on June 1, 1981 in Ravensdale, not far from Seattle, Washington, USA. After a near-death experience with meningitis at the age of five, she developed an interest in singing and found herself performing country songs on stage at just 8 years of age. After signing with the Columbia label, the singer inaugurated her discography in 2005 with a debut album soberly entitled Brandi Carlile (No. 80). She continued her progress two years later with The Story (No. 41 in 2007), followed by Give Up the Ghost (No. 26 in 2009). A new milestone was reached in 2012 with the album Bear Creek, which was the first to break into the top 10 (No. 10), paving the way for its two successors, The Firewatcher's Daughter (No. 9 in 2015) and, above all, By the Way, I Forgive You, which gave her her best ranking in the US charts in 2018 at No. 5. Her seventh opus, In These Silent Days, was released in 2021 and reached No. 11. After winning two Emmy Awards for the educational series We the People (2021) and Jam Van (2023), the singer and guitarist collaborated with Elton John on the title track of the documentary Never Too Late (2024), the first single from the jointly recorded album Who Believes in Angels? which reached No. 1 in the UK charts in 2025. The song is subsequently nominated for an Oscar. Winner of eleven Grammy Awards at six ceremonies, Brandi Carlile also recorded the album Returning to Myself in 2025.
