Suman Hemmadi, also known as Suman Kalyanpur, born on January 28, 1937, in Dhaka, British India, was an Indian playback singer. She began her musical training under Pandit Keshav Rao Bhole and later studied with Ustad Khan, Abdul Rehman Khan, and Guruji Master Navrang. Kalyanpur's career started in 1953 when she sang for the Marathi film Shukrachi Chandni. Her breakthrough came with the Hindi film Mangu, where her song "Koi Pukare Dheere Se Tujhe" was featured. She went on to sing for numerous films, including Darwaza (1954) and Pakeezah (1971). Kalyanpur collaborated with prominent composers such as Shankar Jaikishan, Roshan, and Madan Mohan Kohli. She recorded over 740 movie and non-movie songs, including notable duets with Mohammed Rafi and Manna Dey. Her work spanned multiple languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, and Punjabi. Kalyanpur's voice was often compared to that of Lata Mangeshkar due to their similar tone and texture.
