Biography

Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee, born in 1955 in Bhilai, India, is a sitarist and surbahar maestro of the Imdadkhani gharana. He began his musical training at age five under his father, Acharya Pandit Bimalendu Mukherjee. By 1970, Mukherjee had won two national-level music competitions and received endorsements from filmmaker Satyajit Ray and veena great Balachander. In the same year, he released his debut album Sitar Wizard. He became a grade-A artist with All India Radio in 1975. Mukherjee's career includes extensive touring across over 25 countries, teaching stints at institutions like the Istituto Interculturale di Studi Musicali Comparati in Venice and the Rotterdam Conservatory, and a prolific discography spanning albums such as Sitar (1983).
