Annapurna Devi, born Roshanara Khan on April 17, 1927 in Maihar, India, was a notable surbahar player of Hindustani classical music. She began her musical training under her father, Ustad Alauddin Khan, who initiated her into vocal training and later shifted her to the sitar before transitioning her to the surbahar. From 1946 to 1957, she performed duets with Pandit Ravi Shankar, her first husband, including notable concerts in Delhi, Mumbai, and Calcutta. Devi's career was marked by her dedication to teaching; she mentored many prominent musicians such as Nikhil Banerjee and Hariprasad Chaurasia. She received several accolades, including the Padma Bhushan in 1977 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1991. Devi passed away on October 13, 2018.
