Gudrunâ¯Suâ¯Kramer was born on 24â¯Marchâ¯1946 in Oldenburg, Germany, and trained as a kindergarten teacher before turning to music; her early experience in amateur bands led to her breakthrough in 1968 when she was chosen from 3â¯000 candidates to play Sheila in the German premiere of the musical Hair, a role she performed in 500 shows over 18â¯months. Her first single, "Eine Welt für uns beide", appeared in 1970 under the name Suâ¯Kramer, followed by the 1971 debut album Freiâ¯sein on Telefunken; the album included covers of international hits and original songs. In 1974 she released Lampenfieber, featuring the single "Kinder der Liebe" that reached Numberâ¯27 on the German charts, and in 1976 she issued "Hier ist das Leben" and its English counterpart "You'veâ¯Gotâ¯theâ¯Power", the latter charting at Numberâ¯38 on the Billboard disco chart. Her 1978 album Dieâ¯Zweiâ¯Gesichter showcased her roles as producer, lyricist and composer, though it did not match earlier commercial success. After sporadic releases through the 1980s and a brief acting career, Kramer focused on smaller concerts and oneâwoman shows into the 2000s, reâissuing "Hier ist das Leben" and "You'veâ¯Gotâ¯theâ¯Power" with remixes in 2018 and 2019.
