Biography

Stuart John “Woolly” Wolstenholme was a British musician. He began his musical journey playing the tenor banjo and tenor horn before teaching himself other instruments. In 1964, he met John Lees at the Oldham School of Art, leading to the formation of The Sorcerers, which eventually evolved into Barclay James Harvest in 1967. With the group, Wolstenholme composed and arranged several notable songs, including "When the World was Woken," "Happy Old World," "Moonwater," and "Sea of Tranquility," before leaving the band in 1979. Wolstenholme also pursued a solo career with his project Mæstoso, releasing albums including Mæstoso (1980), Songs From The Black Box (1994), and Black Box Recovered (2004). He died on December 13, 2010, at the age of 63.
