Biography

The Taiwanese pop artist Steve Chou was born in Shengang District, Taichung City, on June 7, 1969. Although selected to be a member of the Little Tigers in 1988, he chose to launch a solo career under the stage name "Xiao Gang" rather than join the boy band. Composing his own material, he debuted in 1989 with the single "Dust Smoke," followed by the full-length album Dialogue of Gemini in 1990. It wasn't until 1992's The Flower World of Xiaogang that he became a national star, and his songwriting ability soon earned him the nickname "godfather of love songs." By the late 1990s, he was releasing material under his birth name. Steve Chou often wrote popular hits for other artists, too, composing tracks like Zhou Huajian's award-winning "Is There a Song That Will Remind You of Me" and Na Ying's "Belling." His ninth solo album, Transfer, was released in 2000 and featured the hit "Dusk," which revived his singing career. Chou released six additional albums during the 2010s, followed by three records during the 2010s. Now lauded as a longtime icon of C-pop, he returned in 2022 with Unforgettable, an album that featured hits like "黄昏" and "男人海洋."
