Biography

Jay Chou, born Jay Chou Chieh-lun on January 18, 1979 in Taipei, Taiwan, is a singer‑songwriter, composer and producer. He began formal vocal training at age fourteen and signed with Alfa Music in 1999, releasing his first studio album, Jay, in 2000, followed by Fantasy in 2001, which earned him the Golden Melody Award for Best Album that year. Subsequent albums-The Eight Dimensions (2002), Yeh Hui‑Mei (2003), Common Jasmin Orange (2004), November's Chopin (2005), Still Fantasy (2006), On the Run! (2007), Capricorn (2008), The Era (2010), Wow! (2011), Opus 12 (2012), Aiyo, Not Bad (2014), Jay Chou's Bedtime Stories (2016) and Greatest Works of Art (2022)-were released under various labels including Sony BMG and Universal Music. Notable singles such as "Nunchucks" (2002), "Common Jasmin Orange" (2004), "Blue and White Porcelain" (2007) and "Rice Field" (2008) appeared on the charts. Jay Chou embarked on multiple world tours, including the Fantasy Tour (2001–2002) and the Carnival World Tour (2019–2025). He received numerous awards, such as Best Album and Best Composer at the Golden Melody Awards, and was ranked third in a 2009 online poll as a cultural celebrity behind Teresa Teng and Faye Wong. In March 2026, he released the album Children of the Sun.
