Biography

Hsiao Huang-chi, also known as Ricky Hsiao and Xiao Huangqi, is a Taiwanese singer, songwriter, and former judoka. He was born on September 22, 1976, in Banqiao, Taipei County, Taiwan. Despite being born with congenital cataracts and losing his eyesight completely at age 15, Hsiao Huang-chi pursued a successful career in music and sports. In 1994, he represented Taiwan at the FESPIC Games in Beijing, winning a bronze medal in judo. He also participated in the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics, placing seventh. He began his musical journey with his debut album You Are My Eyes in 2002. His music features a unique blend of Mandopop and Taiwanese Hokkien pop, and it quickly gained recognition. He also published an oral autobiography, I Saw the Color of Notes (2002), sharing his inspirational journey. In 2004 he released Black Guitar, followed by Our Story (2006), True Love (2007), and I Am Ricky Hsiao (2008). In 2008, he was awarded the Best Taiwanese Male Vocalist award at the 19th Golden Melody Awards. Over the years, Hsiao Huang-chi continued to release successful albums, including Lonely Chords (2011), Good Sir (2013), The Most Beautiful Flower (2014), Mysterious World (2016), and Migratory Bird (2019). In 2024, he released the album No Worries, featuring the song "Just Lonely," which reached number 45 on KKBox's Top 50 Mandarin Singles chart.
