Biography

Steamhammer, an English rock band from Worthing, was formed in 1968 by vocalist Kieran White, guitarists Martin Quittenton and Martin Pugh, bassist Steve Davy, and drummer Michael Rushton. The band backed Freddie King on his England tours from 1968 to 1969. Their debut album, Steamhammer, was released on Columbia Records in 1969, featuring the single "Junior's Wailing" and covers such as "You'll Never Know" by B.B. King. The band's lineup changed frequently, and notable members included Steve Jolliffe (saxophone, flute) and Mick Bradley (drums), who joined in 1969. After several lineup changes and the release of Speech in 1972, the band disbanded following Bradley's death from leukemia in February 1972. Post-breakup, members pursued various projects, and Martin Pugh reformed Steamhammer in 2020 with Pete Sears and John Lingwood, releasing Wailing Again in 2022.
