Biography

Vinegar Joe was an English blues rock band formed in 1971 in London. The group evolved from Dada, a jazz/blues rock fusion band that released one album in 1970. Vinegar Joe's lineup included Elkie Brooks and Robert Palmer on vocals, Pete Gage on guitars, Steve York on bass, Dave Thompson on keyboards, Conrad Isidore and Rob Tait on drums. The band signed with Island Records and released their debut self-titled album Vinegar Joe in April 1972. Their second album, Rock'n Roll Gypsies, followed later that year, featuring Keef Hartley on drums and Jim Mullen on guitars. In 1973, they released their third and final album, Six Star General. The band dissolved in the spring of 1974. Following Vinegar Joe's disbandment, Elkie Brooks and Robert Palmer pursued successful solo careers.
