Biography
Souled American, an alternative country band from Chicago, Illinois, was formed in 1986 by Chris Grigoroff, Joe Adducci, Scott Tuma, and Jamey Barnard. They released their debut album Fe in 1988 under Rough Trade US, followed by Flubber (1989) and Around the Horn (1990). The band's fourth album, Sonny, was released in 1992 but only in Europe. Drummer Jamey Barnard left during this period. In 1994, they released Frozen, followed by Notes Campfire in 1996, both on Moll Tonträger. Guitarist Scott Tuma departed during the making of Notes Campfire (1996). Since then, Souled American has continued as a duo featuring Joe Adducci and Chris Grigoroff, with various supporting musicians. In 2025, Omnivore Recordings issued Rise Above It, a compilation of 20 Souled American songs. In 2026, the band returned with Sanctions, their first studio album in three decades.
