Scott Tuma, an American musician born in Chicago, began his career as a guitarist. He gained initial recognition as a member of the pioneering alt-country band Souled American, with whom he released several albums including Fe (1988) and Frozen (1994). After departing from Souled American in the late 1990s, Tuma embarked on a solo career, releasing numerous albums such as Hard Again (2001), The River 1 2 3 4 (2003), and Dandelion (2010). He also collaborated with various artists and ensembles, notably the Boxhead Ensemble and Zelienople for Good Stuff House. His work has been featured in several films, including Felt by Jason Banker and Provo by Emma Thatcher.
