Biography

Son of the Velvet Rat, an Austrian folk rock band, was founded in 2003 by songwriter Georg Altziebler and organist Heike Binder. They began their career with releases such as Spare Some Sugar [For the Rat] (2003) and By My Side (2003). In 2006, they signed with Vienna indie label Monkey and released Playground. The band's subsequent albums include Loss & Love (2007), featuring the hit single "Fall With Me" which reached number 3 on the FM4 charts and number 47 on their 2007 chart, and Animals (2009). In 2011, Red Chamber Music (2011) was named Best Austrian Album of the Year by Wiener Zeitung and reached number 52 on the Austria Top 40. The band's subsequent releases include Firedancer (2013), which also received the title Best Austrian Album of the Year, and Dorado (2017). They have toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe.
