Biography
Andrew Calhoun, born on November 30, 1957, in New Haven, Connecticut, is an American folk singerâsongwriter whose career began after his mother introduced him to guitarâplaying students, inspiring a path influenced by Kris Kristofferson, Johnnyâ¯Cash and Leonardâ¯Cohen. His first recorded work appeared on the 1983 Water Street LP, followed by Gates of Love (1984) and Walk Me to the War (1987) on Flyingâ¯Fish Records, establishing his presence in the folk circuit. He founded Waterbug Records in 1992, releasing Hope (1993), Phoenixâ¯Envy (1996), Where Blue Meets Blue (1999), and Telfer'sâ¯Cows: Folk Ballads of Scotland (2004), among others, often collaborating with his daughter Casey and musicians such as Andrew Bird. His contributions earned the Lanternâ¯Bearer Award in 2012 and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Woodstock Folk Festival in 2014.
