Smashproof, a Newâ¯Zealand rap group from Auckland, emerged in 2005 when members Deach, Tyree, and Youngâ¯Sid released the clubâhit "Rideâ¯Tilâ¯Iâ¯Die". Their early solo projects, including Tyreeâs 2006 album Now or Never and Youngâ¯Sidâs 2007 debut The Truth, earned critical acclaim and award nominations. The trioâs breakthrough came with the single "Brother" (featuring Ginâ¯Wigmore), which entered the Newâ¯Zealand charts in 2009, reached Number 1 in its fifth week, and ultimately stayed atop for eleven weeks, achieving doubleâplatinum status. Their debut album The Weekend followed in 2009, peaking at number 3 on the national charts. In 2014, they released Forever, further solidifying their presence in the hipâhop scene. Smashproofâs chart successes, including the recordâsetting run of "Brother", and their recognition at the Newâ¯Zealand Music Awards underscore their impact on the countryâs urban music landscape.
