Biography

Smashproof, a New Zealand rap group from Auckland, emerged in 2005 when members Deach, Tyree, and Young Sid released the club‑hit "Ride Til I Die". Their early solo projects, including Tyree’s 2006 album Now or Never and Young Sid’s 2007 debut The Truth, earned critical acclaim and award nominations. The trio’s breakthrough came with the single "Brother" (featuring Gin Wigmore), which entered the New Zealand charts in 2009, reached Number 1 in its fifth week, and ultimately stayed atop for eleven weeks, achieving double‑platinum status. Their debut album The Weekend followed in 2009, peaking at number 3 on the national charts. In 2014, they released Forever, further solidifying their presence in the hip‑hop scene. Smashproof’s chart successes, including the record‑setting run of "Brother", and their recognition at the New Zealand Music Awards underscore their impact on the country’s urban music landscape.
