Biography
Virginia Claire Wigmore, born 6â¯Juneâ¯1986 in Auckland, Newâ¯Zealand, is a singer who began writing songs at fourteen. After winning the International Songwriting Competition with "Angelfire", she released her debut EP Extended Play in 2008, which peaked at Number Ten on the Newâ¯Zealand Albums Chart and earned platinum certification. In 2009 she signed with Island Records Australia and issued her first fullâlength album Holy Smoke, featuring singles such as "Oh My" and "I Do"; the album topped the Newâ¯Zealand chart and reached the top forty in Australia. Her second album, Gravel & Wine (2011), debuted at Number One in Newâ¯Zealand and included the hit "Black Sheep", used in several television series. The 2015 release Blood to Bone continued her streak of chartâtopper albums and entered the Australian ARIA Topâ¯Twenty. In 2018 she released Ivory, named after her son, which also reached the Newâ¯Zealand top ten. Throughout her career Wigmore has toured extensively, performed with artists such as John Mellencamp and Jimmy Barnes, and contributed to advertising campaigns for Air Newâ¯Zealand and Guinness. Her music has appeared in films, television, and videoâgame soundtracks, cementing her presence in both national and international pop music scenes.
