Biography
Slugdge, a British extreme metal band, was formed in Lancashire, England, in 2012 by Kevin Pearson and Matthew Moss. Initially a studio project, Slugdge released their debut album Born of Slime independently in 2013. The group's unique theme centered around a fictional cosmic slug deity called "Mollusca," inspired by Akercocke. Following the release of Gastronomicon (2014) and Dim & Slimeridden Kingdoms (2015), both featured in Stereogum's best-of lists, Slugdge signed to Willowtip Records in 2017. Their fourth album, Esoteric Malacology, was released in March 2018 and topped Bandcamp's metal chart. Shortly after, the band expanded its lineup with Matthew Lowe on bass and Alan Cassidy of The Black Dahlia Murder on drums. At the end of 2018, Esoteric Malacology was included by Sputnikmusic in its list of "the top 50 albums of 2018."
