Biography

Jorge Siddhartha González Ibarra (August 25, 1985), or simply Siddharta, is a Mexican singer-songwriter from Guadalajara. He is mostly known for being the former drummer of Mexican indie rock band Zoé, which he left after recording the album Memo Rex Commander y el Corazón Atómico de la Vía Láctea in 2006. Why You?, his studio debut, came out in 2008 and quickly positioned Siddharta as one of the most promising artists in the Mexican indie rock scene. It also received a nomination for the Latin Grammys in the category of Best Rock Solo Vocal Album. More success followed with the albums Náufrago (2011) and El Vuelo del Pez (2014), both of which received extensive media coverage and won several awards. After signing with Sony Music in late 2015, Siddharta returned with Únicos (2016), a 10-track album that included the platinum-selling singles “Ser Parte” and “Tarde.” Recorded during the Únicos tour, the live album Al Aire saw the light in 2018. Conceived as both a concept and visual album, Memoria Futuro received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Long Form Music Video. In 2021, he collaborated with Spanish singer Ana Torroja on the single “Mapa.”
