Biography

Mexican singer-songwriter Carla Morrison was born on July 19, 1986, in Tecate, Baja California. She moved to Arizona at the age of 17 to study music at Mesa Community College but failed to complete her studies and began to forge a musical career performing under the stage name Babaluca. The Babaluca project enjoyed moderate success and persuaded Morrison that a career in music could be a viable move. Encouraged by this, Morrison returned to Mexico to launch a solo career. She has since established herself as one of the most exciting artists of Mexican origin to emerge in recent years and has been nominated for eight Latin Grammy Awards, winning three of them. Her standout work is undoubtedly her 2012 studio debut Déjenme Llorar which went on to win Grammys for Best Alternative Music Album as well as Best Alternative Song for the title track, a feat she repeated in 2016 with "Vez Primera," one of the tracks from her 2015 sophomore effort, Amor Supremo. A collection of stripped-down acoustic versions titled Amor Supremo Desnudo arrived in 2017. Preceded by the single "Ansiedad," Carla Morrison's third studio full-length album El Renacimiento was released in 2022 and peaked at number 7 on the Mexican charts.
