Jaren Kyei Merrell, known professionally as Shea Coulee, was born on February 8, 1989, in Warsaw, Indiana, and is a drag queen, singer, and rapper. Raised in Plainfield, Illinois, Couleé began their drag career in 2012 and initially performed at various venues in Chicago. They released their debut EP Couleé-D in June 2017, which included music videos co-directed by Coulee. In 2018, Shea Coulee released the singles "Crème brûlée" and "Gasoline" with GESS. Couleé achieved international fame after competing on season nine of RuPaul's Drag Race in 2017, placing in the top four. They won the fifth season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars in 2020 and returned to compete on the all-winners seventh season in 2022, again placing in the top four. Couleé has continued their musical career with notable singles such as "Rewind" (2019), "Collide" (2020), and "Let Go & Your Name" (2022). In February 2023, Shea Coulee released their first full-length album 8.
