Biography

Sargeist, a Finnish black metal band from Lappeenranta, was founded in 1999. The band's name is inspired by Rotting Christ's song "The Old Coffin Spirit". Sargeist began as a side project to release demo material for Horna’s album Sudentaival. Their first demos, Nockmaar and Heralding Breath of the Pestilence, were released in 2001. The band's album, Satanic Black Devotion, followed in 2003 after a split with Merrimack. In subsequent years, Sargeist collaborated on splits with Temple of Baal and Funeral Elegy, and released their album, Disciple of the Heinous Path, in 2005. The band's album, Let the Devil In, was released in 2010, featuring a more developed sound with four guitars and new bass tracks. Notable EPs include The Dark Embrace (2008) and Lair of Necromancy (2011).
