Biography
Saija Varjus, born on January 30, 1965, in Parkano, Finland, is a Finnish singer. Before her music career, she worked as a teacher. Her breakthrough came with the release of her first singles, "Jos Vielä Kerran / Parempi Surra Yksi Yö" and "Yön Tummat Siivet / Kerro Jos Luoksesi Tulla Mä Saan" in 1995 and 1996, respectively. Varjus gained significant recognition when she was crowned "Tango Queen" at the Tangomarkkinat festival in Seinäjoki in 1996. Her debut album, Saija Varjus, followed in 1997, featuring the track "Dam dam da da di dum". Subsequent albums include Yambaijaa (1998), Tähtiin Kirjoitettu (2000), and Ihana Aamu (2002). In January 1998, Varjus was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She continued her musical journey with the release of Varjus in 2007. On October 13, 2007, she married guitarist Petri Hämäläinen.
