Biography
Born on January 22, 1982 in Houston, Texas, Horst Christian Simco stands at the crossroads of alternative rap and electro. Initially a basketball fan, he began rapping in 2005 under the name Rff Raff. He did everything he could to get noticed, from posting videos on YouTube to auditioning for TV talent shows and reality shows. In 2011, Riff Raff was finally signed to Soulja's label Boy Tell Em. The collaboration lasted just one year, and led to a falling-out between the two artists. Riff Raff found another partner in Diplo, who welcomed him to the Mad Decent label. After a flurry of mixtapes and numerous underground collaborations between 2009 and 2012, Riff Raff released the album Neon Icon in June 2014. Despite convincing electro rap and the presence of Mac Miller, Diplo, Mike Posner or Chilish Gambino, this first record received only a relatively lukewarm reception.
