Charles Hamilton, born Charles Eddie-Lee Hamilton Jr. on November 10, 1987 in Cleveland, Ohio, is an American rapper who began creating music in his teenage years, learning keyboard, guitar and drums on his own. His early releases included the mixtape Crash Landing in 2008 and the single "Brooklyn Girls" on November 18, 2008, which helped him secure a contract with Interscope Records. In 2009 he issued the EP This Perfect Life and the mixtape Normalcy, though the planned studio album This Perfect Life was shelved after his departure from the label. Hamilton returned to independent releases, issuing the EP For Your Locker in 2010 and the mixtape Gynophobia 2 in 2011. In 2015 he signed with Republic Records and released the single "New York Raining" featuring Rita Ora, later used in the television series Empire. The same year he issued the EP The Black Box. His debut studio album Hamilton, Charles was released on December 9, 2016 under Republic. In 2018 he reissued his debut album The Pink Lavalamp for its 10th anniversary, and in 2021 he collaborated with Serious Truth on the EP Controversial. Throughout his career, Hamilton has maintained an independent approach to production and songwriting, frequently sampling soul tracks and focusing on storytelling in his lyrics.
