Biography

Renée Elise Goldsberry, born January 2, 1971 in San Jose, California, is an American singer and actress who began her artistic training at Carnegie Mellon University and later earned a Master of Music in jazz studies from the University of Southern California. Her early career featured the 2001 album Everything But the Kitchen Sink and 2006 EP Beautiful, establishing her as a jazz vocalist. In 2015, Goldsberry landed the role of Angelica Schuyler in Lin‑Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musical Hamilton, a performance that earned her a 2016 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and contributed to the cast album’s 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. She later released the studio album Who I Really Am in 2025, continuing her exploration of pop and jazz influences. Goldsberry’s television work includes recurring roles on The Good Wife and the Netflix series Girls5eva, for which she received Critics' Choice Television Award nominations in 2022 and 2023. Her career is marked by multiple award nominations and wins across theater, music, and television, reflecting her sustained impact on American performing arts.
