Rasputina, an American rock band based in New York City, was formed in 1992 by cellist/vocalist Melora Creager. The group initially began as an electric cello choir after Creager placed an ad seeking women musicians. Rasputina signed with Columbia Records in 1996 and released their debut album Thanks for the Ether that year; the follow-up EP Transylvanian Regurgitations appeared in 1997. Their second full-length album, How We Quit the Forest (1998), featured collaborations with Chris Vrenna of Nine Inch Nails. The band toured extensively, sharing stages with notable acts such as Bob Mould and Marilyn Manson. Rasputinaâs discography includes albums like How We Quit the Forest (1998), Cabin Fever (2002), and Oh Perilous World (2007). In 2005, they released the live album A Radical Recital on Melora Creagerâs own label, Filthy Bonnet Recording Co. The bandâs unique style, blending rock with classical cello, has been a consistent feature of their music.
