Private Line, a Finnish melodic English-language rock band from Helsinki, was formed in Jyväskylä during the late 1990s by founding members Sammy, Jari Huttunen, and Eliaz. Their debut EP, Smooth Motions, was released in 1998 after winning a local band competition. Following Jari Huttunen's departure, Private Line recruited Jack, who revitalized the band. In February 2004, the single "Forever and a Day" reached number 3 on the Finnish Singles chart, followed by the debut album 21st Century Pirates in 2004, which peaked at number 18. The band toured extensively and released subsequent albums, including Evel Knievel Factor (2006), which reached number 23 on the Finnish albums chart. Notable singles from this period include "Broken Promised Land" and "Sound Advice", the latter reaching number 2 on the Finnish singles chart.
