Biography

Pierre van der Linden, born on February 19, 1946 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, is a Dutch drummer and songwriter. As a teenager in the early 1960s, he played in local bands, including ZZ en de Maskers. In 1968, Van der Linden formed the band Brainbox with Jan Akkerman and Cyril Havermans and joined Focus in 1971, contributing to their biggest hit "Hocus Pocus" (1973). After leaving Focus in October 1973, he joined the supergroup Trace, releasing three albums before the group disbanded in 1978. Van der Linden briefly rejoined Focus in 1975 and collaborated with Jan Akkerman on several solo projects. In the 1990s, he played with the free jazz group Advance Warning and released two solo albums, including Swung Vol. 1 & 2 (2014) and Drum Poetry (2017).
