Biography

Pierre-Matthieu Vilmet, known professionally as Pierpoljak, was born on September 7, 1964, in Paris, France. He began his musical journey at the age of 13 as a bassist in a punk band called Samu 92. In 1988, he joined the Blues Party Sound System and adopted the pseudonym Peter Braada, later changing it to Pierpoljak. His breakthrough came with the release of his self-titled debut album Pierpoljak in 1996, which was re-recorded and re-arranged with Jamaican musicians at Bob Marley's Tuff Gong studios, resulting in the double album Tracks and Dubplates. This album featured collaborations with notable Jamaican artists such as Doniki and Kulcha Knox. In 1997, Pierpoljak released his third studio album Kingston Karma, which sold over five hundred fifty thousand copies and was certified platinum. The album's success led to an extensive tour across France, Europe, and the Caribbean. His subsequent albums included Je Fais C'Que J'Veux (2000), which won the Victoires de la Musique award for Best Rap, Reggae or Groove Album in 2001, and Cheper (2006). Throughout his career, Pierpoljak has released numerous albums and singles, including "La Music" and "Je sais pas jouer", solidifying his status as a prominent figure in the world music scene.He followed with albums Légendaire Sérénade (2010), Général Indigo (2015), Chapeau de Paille (2017), La Roue Tourne Igo (2020), and Skadabeng (2025).
